I've been ripping out hair versus shaving since they first invented the Epilady and am now on my 4th hair removal appliance. For those that are wondering how or why they die, it's not that they stop functioning altogether but rather one will notice/hear a visible motor/rotating slow down during periods of regular/extended use. In researching what was currently available, I'm upgrading from the Braun Silk Epil Eversoft Model #5316 (yellow and gray case) to the Braun Se 3170 Silk Epil 3 (pink & white case) specifically because it is Braun's latest model with a cord. Unless one removes her (or his) hair over a multiple day period, a 40 minute rechargeable battery isn't going to cut it for the "all hair at once" period and/or for perfectionists.

There is no body area I can't use it on now -- legs, underarms, upper lip, and even extreme bikini (we're talking "Brazilian" girls!). I've long since quit using the massage guard and opt for the fastest/closest pull there is. To be... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars My first epilator, November 11, 2011

Customer Video Review Length:: 2:54 Mins

I've been waxing my legs since Nad's debuted about 10 years ago, and I have been shaving my underarms for about as long. I've always preferred waxing to shaving due to the fact that I didn't have to do it often, but because I do it myself, was never 1 to try waxing my underarms. I also shave my bikini area, but have recently started waxing. I only recently became familiar with epilators less than 2 weeks ago. I saw 1 in a sharper image store, and so began my research. After viewing several different epilators, reading numerous reviews, and watching reviews, I decided to go with this 1. I have to admit, being used to waxing, it was not easy to start with this. A previous reviewer said to shave/trim the hairs prior to using for the first time, but that takes too much time. I took a shower, dried, and went to town on my legs. After a few minutes, it got easy, and I got bold. Went over both legs (below the knee only), and proceeded to my underarms. This seemed... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll never shave or wax again!, November 14, 2011

Okay, ladies (and more meticulous gentlemen), I bought this in exasperation. Shaving is such a pain, and leaves behind hideous stubble on underarms and more delicate places, and waxing hurts more than I can bear. I read a ton of reviews here, some of which scared me, some that encouraged me, and decided to take the plunge.

I got it in the mail today. I was terrified of how it would feel, as many of us know the sharp pain of having hair ripped out, so I also bought a numbing cream. I never shave my arms, so I trimmed up the hair on one, applied a thick layer of numbing cream, and got started. The feeling is something I would compare to a razor burn. Not pleasant (obviously), but not unbearable. Here's my pain scale: a 10 would be spilling boiling water on my skin and then letting a wild animal gnaw the hair off, a 9 would be waxing, a 6 would be nicking myself in the shower with a razor and getting hot water in the cut, and a 1 would be, I dunno, a gentle breeze over a...
